Name: Will Melofchik
DOB: 28/October 13, 1986
Hometown: Ocean Township, NJ
Current Town: Sea Bright, NJ
Years Running: 15
How did you get into running: Ran XC my freshman year in high-school to stay in shape for baseball. I quickly fell in love with the sport – especially after my first trail run at Thompson Park!
What programs/teams have you run for (hs, college, post collegiate, etc.): Christian Brothers Academy, University of Connecticut.
Recent Races Run: I still run a couple of races a year – recently the 2014 NYC half-marathon, 2014 Boston Marathon and 2014 Philadelphia half-marathon.
Shoe fitting experience: 2 years – Shore Runner prior to working at Runner’s High
Favorite Shoe: Tough to pick just one. I really like shoes that provide a little bit of stability while remaining lightweight and responsive. Some include the Nike Structure Triax, Brooks Ravenna and the Mizuno Wave Inspire.
Biggest Running Accomplishment: High School: 1st team all-state in XC and being a part of CBA’s 30 plus year streak of being undefeated in dual meets. College: Finishing 22nd at NCAA XC Northeast Regionals in 2005 to gain 1st team all-northeast status as a sophomore and being part of the 2006 Big East Men’s Track & Field Championship team.
What is it that you like the most about working at Runner’s High: Being surrounded by customers and co-workers who love running as much as I do.
Tell a funny customer story: I was fitting a high-school runner for spikes. I reached down to make sure her toes had enough room when and she accidentally stepped on my hand. Resulted in a nasty cut and all the other customers staring at my bleeding hand.
When you aren’t slingin’ shoes at The High, or running, what are some of your other hobbies: Cycling, reading, watching TV, hanging out with my girlfriend and friends.
Split Leg/5″/7″ shorts (for the guys)/Split Leg/Boy Short/Bun Huggers: Split Leg
Favorite Racing Distance: Half-marathon
Favorite Season to run in and why: Fall – reminds me of cross-country season which will always be my favorite.
#1 Piece of running apparel and why: I have a bright orange Nike jacket that I’ve had since sophomore year of high-school. Great for night-running in the winter since its warm and drivers can see me.
Crack of dawn running, night running or just middle of the day running: Morning running is the best since it is a great way to start the day and it leaves the rest of the day open.
Anything else you want the general public to know about you?: During the week I work in Trenton as an attorney for the NJ Department of Banking and Insurance.
