Fall Training Programs at Runner’s High

Whether you are new to running or looking to get back into the sport, you will find a welcoming, motivational environment filled with enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff here to help you achieve your goals. During coach-led group trainings, participants will learn and develop proper warm up drills and running technique; as well as, receive in person guidance and weekly emails, containing information to support his or her running lifestyle.



Get your Runner’s High on with our beginner friendly 5K training program. This 9-week training program, held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, is designed to help you start running, train and cross the finish line at the Jingle Bell Run 5K for Arthritis on Sunday, December 3, 2017 in Metuchen, NJ.


  • Program Dates:  October 2 through December 3, 2017
  • Location and Time:  Metuchen Store – Tuesdays at 7:00pm
  • Cost:  $69.50 (before 10/17); late registration $74.50 (on 10/2)

  • Limited to the first 25 participants


Take your “runner’s high” to the next level with our Intermediate 5 mile training program. This 10-week training program, held in the fall, is designed to help participants build endurance, continue to develop running skills, and train to cross the finish line at the Born To Run 5 Mile race on Friday, November 24, 2017 in Freehold, NJ.

*Pre-requisite for participation in the 5 mile training program – Participants must be running 2 miles comfortably and consistently, two to three times a week for at least one month prior to the start of the program.

  • Location and Time:  Freehold – Thursdays at 7:00pm
  • Cost:  $79.50 (before 9/18); late registration $84.50 (on 9/18)

1. Can I bring my dog, friend, family member or child to training?

We love fur babies, your friends and family members too! However, we’d like to respect the safety and well-being of your peers; as well as, provide undivided attention to registered participants, and ask participants to refrain from bringing them. Make it a buddy system and have friends/family register with you.

2. How long is training?

Great question! Training will generally last no more than one hour.  We may have additional meetings during the week for a seminar, and/or incorporate these into the days we meet for training. This may extend our meeting time over an hour. Participants will be provided with a schedule of the seminars.

3. I can’t make all the trainings. Should I still sign up?

Yes! This program is all encompassing. Your weekly emails and training schedules are provided to keep participants motivated and on task. Furthermore, a group forum will be available for participants to link up to train together. Lastly, you’ll have the group support, companionship and team camaraderie on race day.

4. I missed the registration deadline; can I still register?

Yes! However, this program is designed to gradually and safely build up endurance and fitness; therefore, we will accept registrations no more than one week after the start date.

5. Do you run in the rain or snow?

Certainly! Being prepared to run in all types of weather is an integral part of training; that is unless, safety becomes an issue. We will not run in thunder, lightning or extreme temperatures, hot or cold.

6. What if I cannot run the whole thing?

You don’t have to go fast, you just have to go. Our goal is to get participants from the starting line to the finish line. It’s your race, your pace. Depending on your goal and training program, walking breaks can be incorporated. We strongly encourage participants to stay consistent with training. Consistency is key to success.

7. I listen to music while I exercise. Can I wear my headphones during training?

One of the many benefits of group training is meeting others alike and making new friends. Leave the headphones at home, meet new people, and also stay safe. With headphones on, it’s difficult to hear directions or other sounds.

8. Is there an age limit?

Registration is open to participants ages 18 and up.

9. I’m not a runner, or I used to run…like, twenty years ago. Is the beginner 5K program for me?

Absolutely! No time like the present to tackle new goals. The 5K program is a beginner friendly program aimed to gradually build up endurance and distance. 

NOTE – For participation in the 5 mile program, participants must be running 2 miles comfortably and consistently, two to three times a week for at least one month prior to the start of the program. 

10. How do I register for the program?

Simple! You can register online, download a registration and mail it in, or stop in any one of our convenient locations to pick up a registration form.

11. What do I need to participate in the program?

A “can do” attitude! Because we know you can do it too. Outside of a positive attitude, upon registering, participants will receive a list of items needed and recommended for participation. 

* Participants are required to wear reflective gear and/or blinking lights during the dark hours of the evening. Registered participants will receive a discount card upon registering for the program that can be used at either the Freehold or Metuchen location.

12 .Do I need to sign up for the target race?

There is nothing more exciting than “graduating” class with your peers and crossing the finish line on race day, not to mention the race is for a great cause. While we highly encourage you to register for the target race, it is not required.
